About This Episode
Announcer: Welcome to the sweet spot podcast where we interview players and coaches across all levels of professional baseball.
Shane: Welcome to the sweet spot network. I’m here with Jordan Balazovic. How are you Jordan?
Jordan: I’m doing well. How are you?
Shane: Good. Um,so what age did you start playing baseball?
Jordan: At what age?
Shane: Yeah
Jordan: I was three years old when I started.
Shane: Oh, that’s awesome. Were you the best on your little league team when you played little league?
Jordan: We had some good guys. I was never the biggest hitter, but I always had like a pretty good arm.
Shane: Did you start pitching when you were a little league? Like what age did you start pitching?
Jordan: I started pitching when I was 12 years old. I think that was the first year, but I came a full time pitcher when I was 14.
Shane: Cool. so what gear do you use?
Jordan: What gear? Rawlings and New Balance.
Shane: Oh are any of those your sponsors?
Jordan: Yeah.
Shane: How did you get drafted? Like how do you get spotted?
Jordan: How?
Shane: Yeah.
Jordan: I was playing travel ball with Ontario Bluejays out of Canada and we’d go and travel perfect game tournaments and all that. So I was just lucky enough to get seen and got drafted.
Shane: That’s really nice. So you were in the futures game. How is the futures game?
Jordan: There was an unreal experience. Pretty much the closest thing to the big leagues really. They treated us, treated us like big leaguers by just having that many people in in the stands. I was, that was awesome.
Shane: Did you meet a lot of the all stars at the game?
Jordan: A lot of them actually weren’t there. Ken Griffey Jr was there and then Jim told me he was my manager, so I talked to those guys a little bit, but the other MLB all stars were not,uat the futures game yet.
Shane: Oh, that’s really cool. So how many hours a day do you practice?
Jordan: We practice every day here. Usually pitchers stretch and all that hour, hour long every day roughly.
Shane: Oh, so when you were in the futures game of who is the guy who like hanging out with the most like I know some guys were there, like wander Franco and like who, who was your best friend at the Futures game?
Jordan: I wouldn’t say I had a best friend at the futures game. I was just trying to meet a bunch of bunch of other guys and go back. Never, never really met before. Talk to obviously pretty much my whole team. Matt Manning was a was a good dude and he was right next to me in the lockers, so I talked to him quite a bit.
Shane: Oh, that’s nice. So do you have a favorite food?
Jordan: A favorite food? Um,I’m honestly a big fan of wings. I love wings.
Shane: Oh, do you have a favorite place to get them?
Jordan: Uh we have a spot. It’s called the Wing Stop in Fort Myers. I go there quite often.
Shane: Oh, that’s nice. Do you have a favorite ballpark in the Florida State League to play at that?
Jordan: I actually don’t have. I do like our park. A lot. I would say that’s probably probably the favorite one.
Shane: It’s one of the nicer ballparks in the Florida State League.
Jordan: It is.
Shane: So that wraps up the interview. Thank you so much, Jordan.
Jordan: Thank you.
