About This Episode
Announcer: Welcome to the Sweet Spot podcast where we interview players and coaches across all levels of professional baseball.
Shane : I’m here with Emilio Pagan of the Tampa Bay rays. How are you Emilio?
Emilio: Doing good, how are you?
Shane: Oh, I’m really good. So today’s Player’s Weekend. How do you feel about player’s weekend in general? Do you like it or do you dislike it?
Emilio: I like it a lot. Players Weekend is fun. You get to kind of show people another side of who you are. Maybe off the field a little bit. So it’s a, it’s fun.
Shane: What’s your players weekend nickname?
Emilio: It’s just my name, Emilio with like four or five o’s. It’s from a movie that I’ve only seen once. I, the movies kind of just okay. But it’s just what I’ve always been called on baseball teams, so that’s why I went with it.
Shane: Oh, that’s cool. So you were traded I believe during the off season or were you excited to go here to Tampa or were you upset? Tell me about your, like how did you feel?
Emilio: I mean, anytime a team goes out and, and kind of makes you a priority, it’s a good feeling. So we had a good team last year in Oakland. We’ve had, you know, we made a good run at the wildcard and came up short in the end, but I had a fun season there and then I was excited about the opportunity here.
Shane: What’s your favorite food?
Emilio: Pizza.
Shane: Do you have a favorite place to get it like in Tampa or so, anywhere.
Emilio: Papa John’s can’t go wrong. It’s pretty consistent. It’s not the, I wouldn’t say it’s the best pizza ever, but you know what you’re going to get every time.
Shane: Yeah. so if you all like, what’s your favorite ballpark that you go to like in the major leagues?
Emilio: I love going to Yankee Stadium. The atmosphere is kind of you know, it’s, it’s one of a kind. It’s unmatched. There’s not another place like it. But I love playing in Tampa too. I mean, a lot of people dog the dome, but I love playing at home in St Pete.
Shane: Yeah, I do have like a least favorite hitter that you faced, like some guy who really does good against you?
Emilio: There’s a lot of really good hitters. I wouldn’t say I have a least favorite to face. No, but one of my ex teammates, Dan Vogelbach apparently sees the ball really well off of me, so,uI gotta find a way to get him out.
Shane: Oh, that wraps up the interview. Thank you so much, Emilio for doing this.
Emilio: Thanks man.
Shane: Thanks
